I would appreciate any advice/help to educate and encourage people to keep their dogs on leash while in our local wildlife area. There are signs posted stating that dogs are to be on leash, but there is a reluctance by local staff to enforce the rules. Since there have been several complaints about dogs knocking people over on the boardwalks and injuring them, some attempt by the local Humane Society to educate/fine the offenders but they even seem to be reluctant to fine the offenders. I would like to conduct a campaign of rewarding the few people who keep their dogs on leash. Do you know of any programs to educate people about the problems of off leash dogs and wildlife and do you know of any environmentally friendly medal or keychain type of recognition? I would like something that I could put "I am a responsible dog owner" with the Society's name on it. One fellow suggested that I just give the dogs a biscuit but that would require someone sitting in the nature reserve day after day and 24/7 almost. Thanks for your suggestions.
Sincerely,
Eliza Olson, B.Ed.
